About The Programme: The Panchayat & Rural Development Department, with a view to open 1000 Child Education Centre (later known as Shishu Shiksha Kendra) in the state of WB, issued an order, dated 04/08/1997. After about two years, the Paschim Banga Rajya Shishu Shiksha Mission, under the Panchayat & Rural Development Department, Government of West Bengal was formed on 24/11/1999, as a registered Society under the Society Registration Act 1961 (Registration no: S/96500 of 1999-2000), to look after the CECs by implementing the Shishu Shiksha Karmasuchi. Later on, from 2003, the Mission is implementing the Madhyamik Shiksha Karmasuchi also, as per the decision of the P&RD Department.

As per cabinet approval and in terms of the Notification No. 979-ES/EE/10M-164/19 Dated: 18/12/2019 read with Notification No. 482-ES/EE/10M-164/19 Dated: 16/10/2020 of the School Education Department, the whole society of the Paschim Banga Rajya Shishu Shiksha Mission (PBRSSM) alongwith its assets and liabilities, was transferred from Panchayat & Rural Development Department to the School Education Department w.e.f. 01.12.2020.

 An alternative Education System organized by PBRSSM under P & RD Deptt., Govt. of West Bengal. Sishu Shiksha Karmasuchi (for Std.-I to Std-IV) was launched in 1997 and Madhyamik Shiksha Karmasuchi (Std.-V to Std.-VIII) was launched in 2003. Both the Karmasuchi were launched in view of mainstreaming of the out of school children and other under privileged children of the remotest areas of the district. But at present both the Karmasuchis have gained enormous popularity.

           In theAcademic year 2022, there are 524 nos. of SSK &40 nos. of MSK are functioning in the district with 28671 no. of Learners (from Pre-Primary to Standard-VIII).
